Tyburn - Demo (EP)

Tyburn are a new band, made up of older guys. Members of xCanaanx (straight-edge mosh warriors) and HHH (Canterbury hardcore) have teamed up to form Tyburn. They play absolutely crushing ’90s inspired metalcore.

Taken from their own description on Facebook:
“Tyburn channel the righteous disgust and visceral spirit of bands like Left For Dead, Earthmover and Haymaker. This is seething metallic hardcore like your cooler, older brother was in to. If you can remember when bands had more songs than merch designs, and shirts ONLY came in XL…this is for you.”
Apart from Abolition (London straight-edge band), I can’t think of another band, from England, who’s gripping so tightly to perfecting the sound of music from when I was about ten years old. (edit: Natural Order… from Wales and In Tongues… from Scotland are doing a pretty decent job of it).
Still with a venom and fire in their lungs, these guys don’t limit their DIY attitude to solely music, the vocalist, John, also co-runs Iron Column Skateboards, a “company” who produces good quality skate stuff, from decks to t-shirts, to crewnecks and beanie hats… and sells them for as cheap as they possibly can, without losing money, as they notice it’s not about profit but about the love for skateboarding. See for yourself:

Good guys, playing better music. Seriously, I’ll state for a second time - they have this style of hardcore down to a tee!

You can hear the new songs (such as "ashes") via the Facebook page and buy a t-shirt, if you wish:

They also have a split 7” with Moat, coming out on Hemlock 13 Records, which you can check out here. I’m not sure when this split will be coming out but it’s adamantly anticipated:

That label is releasing a lot of dark, dark, gloomy stuff… including the Anguish (including members of The Flex… see the first post on this blog) 7”.

Never Again - Year One (LP)

Firstly, I’ve stolen this Mediafire link from another blog. I don’t know who runs the blog, so I can’t thank them directly but cheers.
With that said, this is the LP which compiles all the songs recorded by Never Again, throughout their existence as a band, between 2009-2010.
Never Again grew in to a band many people showed a keen interest in, literally over the same night the songs went online, it was instant! One night Tom says “listen to my new band”, it was good, the next night I checked the page for a re-listen and I seem to remember they had hundreds of Myspace friends and I can see why.
I’ve seen many people, myself included, referring to Never Again as being the best UK Hardcore band to date. I’m not straight-edge but their raw passion, anger and contempt towards society’s flaws (bar culture and social inadequacy) made an impact on me and still resonates. The sing-a-longs from songs such as ‘Enough Is Enough’, to the straight-edge anthem which is ‘Iron Youth’, to the screaming of “Anxiiiietyyyy Attackkkk” over the reverb, it’s just brilliant stuff. Unfortunately the band is no longer around, this year of existence sparked, what I’d literally class as a sound of music which is in part influenced by Never Again, bands including Think Twice (Nottingham), Iron Curtain (London) and Control (The North) are among those which instantly spring to mind (others may disagree, it’s just my opinion).
They were good, in the year they existed, I attempted to collect everything they’d recorded and every item of merch they’d printed… but these guys were spitting out records, cassettes, short sleeved t-shirts, long sleeved 4-sided t-shirts and crewnecks, quicker than any other band with ten years under their belt. What I was able to collect was:

*6 different t-shirt designs… of which they probably printed over 20.
*No Sympathy - Cassette Tape
*Repulsed - Cassette Tape
*Pressure - 7” - On three different colours
*Year One - LP
*-Live @ The Albert, Brighton - Cassette Tape (which came for free with the Year One LP)
The full discography is not in my collection and this is what the ‘Year One’ download you see before you includes:
*No Sympathy - Cassette Tape
* Repulsed -  Cassette Tape
* Pressure - 7”
* Ironclad + Never Again - Split 7” - only the NXA songs
*Mind Trap (Austria) + Never Again - Split 7” - only the NXA songs
*And 3 exclusive, previously unreleased tracks, including a cover of Boston legends No Justice, which fits well and they made it their own.
All in all they were one of the most hard-working and busy bands that I know of, all of these releases and several tours of Europe, in the space of a single year.

It’s a shame that it came to an end so soon but hey ho. Life moves on and new bands have come out of it or the members older bands have had more attention paid to them.

Members of Never Again also play in / have also played in: Wayfarer, Comin’ Through (one show and no recordings, boo!), Sectarian Violence (an international band),  Inherit, Hang The Bastard, Hello Bastards, STAB, Final Rage… there are probably more obvious ones that I’m forgetting too. Oh, they’re also the guys who run the growing, mighty Carry The Weight Records (CTW Records)!

Anyway, download it HERE.

And view a video of one of their monstrously energetic and venomous live performances below:

The Flex - Demo (Tape)

The Flex is a new band from the UK, with members of Perspex Flesh and Closure. Musically, they remind me a lot of Think I Care, but with a heavy Boston influence (SSD/ DYS/ Xclaim!). Plain, mean, dirty hardcore for the hardcore!” - Jeff DeSantis from BleedingEdges Records, USA.
This Demo makes a good first post due to it’s gritty nature and raw energy, this is influenced by early ’80s blistering hardcore, yet was only recorded earlier this year (2012). These guys are from that same northern circle of blokes who play in a whole host of bands; closure, sick-fuckin-o, bonestorm, anguish… and it goes on (to include Voorhees and Rot In Hell). So, if you know those bands, you should know what to expect.
This is a good place to start.
I have, unfortunately not done my homework, so I only know of a US distro which stocks this tape. You can buy it here: http://bleedingedges.bigcartel.com
Limited to 100 copies with re-designed cover art on pro duplicated red cassettes, with printed sticker labels. (5 songs)
You can download it HERE.

This Blog - The Simple Reason

I've decided to set up this blog in order to document UK based hardcore and it's sub-sub-genres to those who are either interested or curious.

Pretty simple really.

Here, I will post up stuff that you can already download via Bandcamp pages or mediafire links from other blogs, yet if you would rather not have your bands' music up here then tell me to remove it.

Alternatively, if you are in a band and would like me to post your demo / release up, send the mp3s and artwork to manic-expressive@hotmail.co.uk

Cheers.
